Provincial Government Announces Appointment to the Canada-Newfoundland and Labrador Offshore Petroleum Board

The Honourable Siobhan Coady, Minister of Natural Resources, is pleased to announce the appointment of Lori Bevan to the Board of Directors of the Canada-Newfoundland and Labrador Offshore Petroleum Board (C-NLOPB). Ms. Bevan’s appointment is for a six-year term. The appointment was made through the merit-based appointment process established by the Independent Appointments Commission (IAC) Act.

The C-NLOPB was established in 1986 through the Atlantic Accord for the purpose of regulating the oil and gas industry offshore Newfoundland and Labrador. The seven-member board comprises three members appointed by the Federal Government, three appointed by the Provincial Government, and a chair who is appointed jointly by the two governments.

BACKGROUNDER

Lori Bevan, LLB

Lori Bevan, BA, LLB is a graduate of Memorial University and Dalhousie’s Schulich School of Law. She has extensive oil and gas experience in multiple jurisdictions garnered over a nearly 20-year legal career. From 2003 to 2013, Ms. Bevan worked with Norton Rose Fulbright and advised clients on their oil and gas activities, contractual rights and obligations, acquisitions and disposals. She has advised on petroleum regime design in Mexico and Iraq and undertook a comparative review of regimes in Africa. Ms. Bevan was senior legal counsel for Total SA from 2013 to 2015 where she was responsible for legal matters in Iraq, Oman and Yemen. In 2015, she was transferred to Total E&P PNG Limited in Papua New Guinea where she was responsible for legal matters in the country until retiring in August 2018. Ms. Bevan was appointed to the Board of Directors of the Canada-Newfoundland and Labrador Offshore Petroleum Board (C-NLOPB) in October 2019. Ms. Bevan brings strong analytical and advisory skills to the table together with a willingness to quickly learn and adapt to new regulatory environments.
