Motor Registration Division Mount Pearl Introduces Online Appointment Booking and Text Message Alerts
Two new digital service options at Motor Registration Division (MRD) in Mount Pearl are designed to reduce the amount of time people spend waiting in line.
Newfoundland and Labrador is now the first jurisdiction in Canada to offer advance online appointment booking and SMS text alerts as part of the Customer Flow Management System that was first implemented in 2016.
The Honourable Perry Trimper, Minister of Service NL, unveiled the new approach, which will enhance service delivery using the "digital-by-design" concept introduced in The Way Forward Vision.
Customers who need to do business in person at MRD Mount Pearl can now reduce the time they spend waiting in line by visiting www.gov.nl.ca/drive to book an appointment for a specific day and time.
Also, when there are more than 45 people in line, customers without an appointment can request a text message alert when they check in and take a number. This feature allows the user to leave the building to attend to other matters, and return when they receive a text alert telling them that their turn is near.
MRD Mount Pearl is the busiest location in the province, providing in-person service to an average of 8,660 clients per month. It is estimated that half of those customers could have completed their transaction online.
Before booking an appointment, or visiting an MRD location, customers are encouraged to check the Service NL website to see if the service they need can be completed online. Those who do not wish to use these digital services can still visit MRD for in-person service.
“Service NL is always looking for ways to improve service delivery, and today’s announcement puts the Motor Registration Division’s Mount Pearl location at the forefront of customer service technology in Canada. In addition to making many services available online last year, these innovative new features are the latest example of how we are meeting the changing needs of the residents of our province.”
