Expressions of Interest Call for Commissioners

The Department of Municipal Affairs has issued an Expressions of Interest call to identify individuals or firms from across Newfoundland and Labrador who may be interested in acting on a fee for service basis as commissioners for feasibility study reports and/or public hearings that are anticipated to arise in the future. The studies would be at the request of municipalities.

"Many municipalities around the province have recognized the substantial benefits that can be attained when neighboring towns work cooperatively to find local solutions to common problems. These municipalities are seeking new ways to address challenges and find better ways to deliver effective and efficient services," stated the Honourable Jack Byrne, Minister of Municipal Affairs. "The call for expressions of interest will identify a pool of persons who may be interested in assisting with the administration of feasibility studies with a goal to strengthen local government through the sharing of services or joint cooperative ventures."

Approximately 40 communities in 10 areas across the province have expressed interest in pursuing options to improve service and cut costs through the possibility of shared services or alternate structures.

"We want to ensure that if a request is made by municipalities, that we have qualified and experienced individuals in place across the province to assist with these studies," added Minister Byrne. "This is a proactive approach, and will ensure that the department is prepared to respond to municipalities who request assistance."
