December 4, 2019

The 33rd annual Christmas Lights Across Canada celebration will take place tomorrow (Thursday, December 5), beginning at 6:00 p.m. in St. John’s in the lobby of the Confederation Building, East Block.

The Honourable Bernard Davis, Minister of Tourism, Culture, Industry and Innovation, and Pam Parsons, Parliamentary Secretary for Transportation and Works, will join six-year old Emma Clarke and family to activate the lights on Confederation Hill. Entertainment will be provided by the Royal Newfoundland Regiment Band and the Holy Trinity Elementary School Choir. Refreshments will be served after the Christmas lights have been switched on.

The Christmas Lights Across Canada celebration is an annual event where each province and territory decorates its capital city and holds its own lighting ceremony. At the event, approximately 60,000 LED lights will illuminate the Confederation Building Christmas tree and other trees along Prince Philip Drive. The initiative contributes to a nationwide effort to symbolically link Canadians together for the holiday season.
