Provincial Government Seeking Input for Provincial Roads Plan

For the fourth year in a row, the Department of Transportation and Works is seeking input from the public for projects to be considered for the Five-Year Provincial Roads Plan.

Participants are being asked to identify the region, route name and number and the nearest municipality or landmark, followed by the type of issue they are experiencing. The form can be accessed via Engagenl.ca external link and will be open for input until November 23.

The department has already identified 75 per cent of the projects planned for completion in 2020-21. Additional projects are added each year so that new issues can be addressed in a timely manner.

Projects are evaluated based on safety, traffic volumes, socio-economic impacts, input from the general public, and assessments by engineers with the Department of Transportation and Works.

Projects already included in the plan include work on the Trans-Canada Highway at the Glovertown underpass and paving sections of the Burin Peninsula Highway, Gander Bay Highway, and Hansen Memorial Highway. A list of projects already planned for 2020-21 and the following years can be found at www.roads.gov.nl.ca

The Five-Year Provincial Roads Plan delivers on commitments in The Way Forward to strengthen the province’s economic foundation and deliver better services and better outcomes for residents. The Way Forward outlines all actions the Provincial Government is taking to achieve a strong, diversified province with a high standard of living, and can be viewed at thewayforward.gov.nl.ca.

“Our roads plan keeps contractors informed of upcoming work in future years and allows us to add more road work projects as necessary. The responses we receive from the consultation help us review and determine what additional work can be completed next year and in future years and we encourage everyone to participate.”
Honourable Steve Crocker
Minister of Transportation and Works
