  • Transportation and Works

August 30, 2019

Work to replace culverts on the Trans-Canada Highway, east of the Avondale interchange, will begin Tuesday (September 3) with impacts to motorists taking place in two phases.

Phase 1: September 3 – 6

  • Lane reductions in the area will commence at 9:00 a.m. on Tuesday (September 3) reducing traffic from two lanes to one in both eastbound and westbound directions. This will continue through until 7:30 p.m. Friday evening (September 6).

Phase 2 – September 6 – 10

  • All lanes will close and traffic will be detoured. During this time, eastbound and westbound motorists will be re-routed around the work area via:
    • Salmonier Line (Route 90)
    • Conception Bay South Highway (Route 60)
    • Avondale Access Road (Route 63)
  • The detours are anticipated to end on Tuesday, September 10, after which the reduced lanes will continue.

Detours are in place to ensure the work is completed as quickly and safely as possible. Motorists are advised to plan their travel accordingly, reduce their speeds as they approach the construction zone and obey all signage.

Updates will be provided as they become available on the Government of Newfoundland and Labrador Facebook account, via twitter at @TW_GovNL and at http://www.roads.gov.nl.ca/.
