Contract Awarded to Construct New School in St. Alban’s

The Government of Newfoundland and Labrador has awarded a contract to Brook Construction to design and construct a new school in St. Alban’s. The contract is valued at approximately $16.2 million.

The new school will be 50,900 square feet with 16 classrooms over two floors, located on Church Street in St. Alban’s, and accommodate approximately 210 students from Kindergarten to Grade 12 in the Bay d’Espoir region.

It will also include a library, music room, science lab, computer lab, art room, skilled trades and home economics spaces, fitness centre and full sized, 6,329 square foot gymnasium.

Design work will be completed this winter and construction will begin in the spring of 2020 and the new school is anticipated to open in September 2021.

The new school in St. Alban’s and schools in Paradise, Bay Roberts and Gander are included in The Way Forward: A Multi-Year Plan for Infrastructure Investments for 2019.

Over the next five years, the Provincial Government will invest $108.4 million on new and expanded K-12 school facilities and an additional $72.5 million for repairs and maintenance of existing school facilities.
