  • Transportation and Works

January 9, 2019

Motorists are advised to prepare for icy conditions expected tomorrow morning on highways in eastern Newfoundland and on the Avalon Peninsula.

The department is monitoring forecasts calling for freezing rain beginning around 3:00 a.m. with its most intense period anticipated between 6:00 a.m. and 9:00 a.m.

Snow plows and ice control crews are preparing for the adverse weather and will be working overnight in these regions to ensure the safety of motorists. However, motorists are also advised to drive cautiously, expect travel delays, ensure vehicles are properly equipped for winter driving and drive to conditions.

In addition, the Winter Driving Conditions report, available at www.roads.gov.nl.ca, is updated at approximately 7:00 a.m. and throughout the day, when necessary, with reports from department supervisors checking conditions throughout the province.
