Enhancing Market Development for Green Initiative

December 3, 2019

The Honourable Bernard Davis, Minister of Tourism, Culture, Industry and Innovation, today announced nearly $34,500 from the Business Development Support program to assist with marketing activities for the Jerry-Buddy.

Jerry-Buddy is a device that connects to outboard engines, preventing spills from can-to-can fuel transfer in an unstable sea environment. This innovative adaptor fits all standard vented fuel cans, filtering sediment from fuel during usage. As a result, this product allows operators to save on maintenance cost and extend engine life. Support for Jerry-Buddy from the Business Development Support program will assist with trade show attendance, point of sales display and packaging. In addition to the Provincial Government’s contribution, the company is providing 50 per cent of the total project costs.

Invented by avid hunting and fishing enthusiasts Cody Tayler and Steven Brent, Jerry-Buddy is a growing company located in Northern Arm.

Through the Tech Sector Work Plan, the Provincial Government is committed to identifying and developing opportunities to leverage green initiatives and related supports for development and adoption within clean tech industries. Support for the Tech Sector Work Plan and the Business Innovation Agenda also deliver on commitments in The Way Forward to strengthen the province’s economic foundation. The Way Forward outlines all actions the provincial government is taking to achieve a strong, diversified province with a high standard of living, and can be viewed at thewayforward.gov.nl.ca.

Quotes
“Our government is committed to supporting businesses that help play a role in reducing negative impacts on the environment. Jerry-Buddy is a unique product by two enterprising entrepreneurs who noticed an industry gap, and government is pleased to support this company in its efforts to expand their market reach.”
Honourable Bernard Davis
Minister of Tourism, Culture, Industry and Innovation

“We are committed to protecting the environment in Newfoundland and Labrador. Investing in innovative technologies like the Jerry-Buddy will contribute to less fuel being wasted and less fuel spills in our province’s oceans and lakes.”
Honourable Derrick Bragg
Minister of Municipal Affairs and Environment

“Getting a product off the ground is a big task and can be very difficult to do especially from a small town in central Newfoundland. Throughout the process of developing the Jerry-Buddy and getting it to market in early 2019, we have had the support of the Business Development Support program and we feel that without this we would not be where we are today. With the help of the Provincial Government and this program, we will continue to progress the Jerry-Buddy exponentially while also meeting and surpassing our projections for 2020 and beyond.”
