The Town of Marystown is further developing its marine industrial park to support the region’s aquaculture industry and create new economic opportunities. The project involves the development of seven existing industrial lots. Activities include blasting, grading, landscaping, excavating, backfilling, site engineering and project management. The initiative will enable the town to further grow its aquaculture and industrial sectors, build community capacity and generate economic benefits for the area.

The Government of Newfoundland and Labrador is contributing $355,500 towards this project, and the Government of Canada, through the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency (ACOA), is providing a non-repayable contribution of $755,584.

The Honourable Carol Anne Haley, Minister responsible for the Status of Women and MHA for Burin-Grand Bank, on behalf of the Honourable Christopher Mitchelmore, Minister of Tourism, Culture, Industry and Innovation, along with Churence Rogers, Member of Parliament for Bonavista-Burin-Trinity, on behalf of the Honourable Navdeep Bains, Minister of Innovation, Science and Economic Development and Minister responsible for ACOA, made the announcement today.

The Government of Canada is making smart investments that will create good, middle-class jobs in our country. It is helping Atlantic Canadian communities access the tools they need to create sustainable economic growth. Support for this project is one way the Government of Canada is working to achieve its Atlantic Growth Strategy outcome of long-term economic prosperity in the region.

Provincial support for this project delivers on commitments of The Way Forward to strengthen the province’s economic foundation. The Way Forward outlines all actions the Provincial Government is taking to achieve a strong, diversified province with a high standard of living, and can be viewed at thewayforward.gov.nl.ca.

“The Town of Marystown is pleased to once again partner with the Federal Government, through ACOA, and the province to build better economic infrastructure at our Marine Industrial Park. Both ACOA and the Provincial Government have partnered with the town for a number of years to develop the Marine Industrial Park into the footprint that it is today. When fully developed, the Marine Industrial Park will house the world’s largest Salmon Hatchery – Grieg NL – plus other businesses that will support aquaculture well into the future.
