The Provincial Government is committed to diversifying regional economies and strengthening the province’s economic foundation. The Honourable Christopher Mitchelmore, Minister of Tourism, Culture, Industry and Innovation, today announced nearly $132,000 from the Business Development Support program to assist with marketing activities for three emerging companies in western Newfoundland.

Juniper BBQ Scraper Ltd. received $95,538 to enhance and expand its marketing efforts to reach customers in Ontario and parts of the United States. This company manufactures, wholesales and retails wooden BBQ scrapers that are simple, safe and 100 per cent natural. Produced from Tamarack, the scrapers are designed to allow grooves to form in the wood when it is being used to clean the grill. Juniper BBQ Scraper Ltd. wholesales to over 20 grocery chains, craft shops and other specialty stores in 50 locations throughout Newfoundland and Labrador. The company will contribute $96,055 toward this initiative.

The Saucy Newfoundland Co. is a micro-sized sauce manufacturing company that produces several Newfoundland themed sauces. The Provincial Government contributed $20,000 to expand their local and national market presence. In addition to Saucy Newfoundland Co marketing initiatives, this contribution will also allow the company to invest in significantly improving its productivity and efficiency. The company will match the $20,000 of support from the Business Development Support program.

Pirate’s Haven Chalets and Adventures received $16,233 to upgrade its website and increase marketing efforts to position the company as a preferred place for soft adventure tourism and an exceptional place to stay. Pirate’s Haven Chalets and Adventures is providing 50 per cent of the total project costs.

Support for businesses such as these to improve marketing efforts deliver on commitments in The Way Forward to strengthen the province’s economic foundation.
