The Honourable Siobhan Coady, Minister of Natural Resources, is congratulating China Minmetals Corporation on their first shipment of concentrate from the Beaver Brook Antimony Mine to China on June 19. There have been approximately 100 jobs created at the Beaver Brook Antimony Mine.

At full production, 160,000 tonnes of antimony ore will be mined per year and processed into concentrate. Antimony alloys are used in batteries, low friction metals and cable sheathing, among other products. Antimony compounds are used to make flame-proofing materials, paints, ceramic enamels, glass and pottery.

On March 8, the Honourable Dwight Ball, Premier of Newfoundland and Labrador, Minister Coady, and Huang Chongbiao, Vice President of China Minmetals Corporation announced the reopening of the Beaver Brook Antimony Mine in Central Newfoundland.

Projects such as the re-opening of Beaver Brook Antimony Mine demonstrate the success and great potential of Newfoundland and Labrador’s mining industry. Through Mining the Future 2030 – A Plan for Growth in Newfoundland and Labrador Mining Industry is guiding actions to ensure mining continues to be a significant contributor to the provincial economy.
