Public Advisory: Holiday Safety Tips – Day 1

  • Municipal Affairs and Environment

December 9, 2019

The Department of Municipal Affairs and Environment is kicking off the 12 Days of Fire Safety, which offers safety tips leading up to the holiday season. Each weekday up to Christmas Eve, the department will provide tips on how to protect families and homes from emergency situations.

Candles are an important part of the holiday season when decorating and entertaining.

LED candles are the best choice for home entertaining, but if you choose to use a real candle, please remember:

  • Always blow out candles when leaving the room or going to bed;
  • Never burn a candle if medical oxygen is used in your home; and
  • Place candles on a secure, clean surface a safe distance (minimum 30 centimetres) from anything flammable

Follow the department on Twitter @MAE_GovNL for more safety tips.

The Department of Municipal Affairs and Environment wishes all residents a safe and happy holiday season.
