Public Advisory: Residents and Communities Encouraged to be Prepared During Hurricane Season

  • Municipal Affairs and Environment

September 5, 2019

The Department of Municipal Affairs and Environment is monitoring forecast information on the weather system now classified as Hurricane Dorian that is anticipated to track towards the province this weekend.

Residents are encouraged to be prepared for adverse weather conditions during hurricane season which typically concludes at the end of November. Municipalities and local service districts are asked to review their emergency management plans and should ensure that infrastructure such as roads, ditches and drains are clear of debris and appropriate provisions are made for the delivery of services during anticipated weather events.

Residents should know the risks associated with adverse weather conditions in their communities, develop their own emergency plan, and assemble an emergency kit. Having supplies on hand, including food, water, batteries and a portable radio, is important. Information regarding general emergency preparedness is available at www.getprepared.gc.ca/.

Please follow the latest weather forecast warnings regularly for your region of the province at www.weather.gc.ca/warnings/index_e.html?prov=nl.
