Environmental Assessment Bulletin

The Honourable Lisa Dempster, Minister of Municipal Affairs and Environment, has announced the following events relative to Part 10 Environmental Assessment of the Environmental Protection Act.

UNDERTAKINGS REGISTERED:

Forest Management District 20 – Five-Year Operating Plan (2020-2024)    (Reg. 2049)
Proponent: Department of Fisheries and Land Resources

The proponent has a submitted a proposal for a five-year operating plan for Forest Management District 20. District 20 covers an area of 2.2 million hectares and is located on the south coast of Labrador. The undertaking will enable the harvesting of approximately 150,425 cubic metres of timber and the construction of approximately 14 kilometres of primary forest access road.

The undertaking was registered on August 28, 2019; the deadline for public comments is October 4, 2019; and the minister’s decision is due by October 12, 2019.

Upper Humber River Remote Cottage                                               (Reg. 2048)
Proponent: Richard Johnson

The proponent plans to construct a 20 x 30 foot remote cottage for recreational purposes along the Upper Humber River. The cottage site will be accessed from Taylor’s Brook Road and is located approximately 21 kilometres from Route 420. Water and septic services are to include the construction of a pit privy and transportation of potable water to the cottage.

The undertaking was registered on August 27, 2019; public comments are due by October 4, 2019; and the minister’s decision is due October 11, 2019.

ENVIRONMENTAL EFFECTS MONITORING PLANS APPROVED            (Reg. 1834)

Placentia Bay Atlantic Salmon Aquaculture Project
Proponent: Grieg NL Nurseries Ltd. and Grieg NL Seafarms Ltd.

On August 14, 2019, the minister approved the Environmental Effects Monitoring Plan for Sea Cage Performance and the Environmental Effects Monitoring Plan for Benthic Habitat Health. The approval of these plans are conditions of release of the project from environmental assessment.
