Media Advisory: Correctional Officer Recruit Training Graduation Ceremony

The newest class of correctional officer recruits are graduating tomorrow, Tuesday (July 9). The ceremony will take place at 5:30 p.m. at the Newfoundland and Labrador Sports Centre Powerplex, 90 Crosbie Rd, St. John’s.

There are 26 recruits successfully completing the program – six females and 20 males.

Correctional officers work at five correctional facilities throughout the province and two detention centres located in Corner Brook and St. John’s. Recruits will begin on the job training next week after receiving significant training in Mental Health First Aid, Use of Force /Self Defense, Indigenous Cultural Diversity by First Light, Respectful Workplace in consultation with the Women in Resource and Development Corporation, Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder (FASD) with Eastern Health, Autism Awareness, LGBTQ2+ Awareness and Workplace Wellness.
