New Provincial Court Judge Appointed

The Honourable Andrew Parsons, QC, Minister of Justice and Public Safety and Attorney General announced today, the appointment of a new Provincial Court Judge. Rolf Pritchard, QC is appointed to the Provincial Court in Happy Valley-Goose Bay.

Mr. Pritchard graduated from the University of Alberta Law School in 1995 and was called to the Bar in 1996 when he went to work in private practice. He began working with the Provincial Government in 2001, holding several positions prior to his current position as Assistant Deputy Minister for Legal Services with the Department of Justice and Public Safety. From 2007 to 2008 he represented the province at the Cameron Inquiry and was legal counsel to the Task Force on Adverse Health Events. Mr. Pritchard’s appointment is effective immediately.

Backgrounder

Rolf Pritchard, QC 
Rolf Pritchard was raised in St. Albert, Alberta. After completing his Bachelor of Arts at the University of Alberta in 1983, he worked in the not-for-profit sector for nine years promoting debating and public speaking in schools throughout Alberta and Saskatchewan. After graduating with an LL.B. from the University of Alberta in 1995, Mr. Pritchard was called to the Newfoundland and Labrador Bar in 1996. He practiced for a year with Brian Casey before joining Williams Roebothan McKay and Marshall. In 2001, he joined the Department of Justice in the Litigation Unit. Mr. Pritchard was seconded to Executive Council in 2007 and represented the province at the Cameron Inquiry and was also legal counsel to the Task Force on Adverse Health Events. In 2009, he was appointed Manager of the Litigation Unit in the Department of Justice. He was appointed to the Queen’s Counsel in 2011 and was appointed Director of the Civil Division in 2013, a position he held before being appointed Assistant Deputy Minister (Acting) for Legal Services in 2017. Mr. Pritchard has appeared before all levels of courts in this province as well as the Federal Court and the Supreme Court of Canada. Mr. Pritchard is married to Susan LeDrew, QC, and they have three sons, Harrison, Anderson and Oliver.
