March 22, 2019

The Honourable Perry Trimper, Speaker of the House of Assembly, announced the appointment of Ms. Victoria Woodworth-Lynas, effective March 21, 2019, as the Acting Information and Privacy Commissioner, until such time as the position is permanently filled in accordance with the Access to Information and Protection of Privacy Act, 2015. Ms. Woodworth-Lynas served previously as the Director of Legislative Renewal, Department of Municipal Affairs and Environment; and the Director of the ATIPP Office, Department of Justice and Public Safety.

The position of Information and Privacy Commissioner is vacant as a result of the resignation of Mr. Donovan Molloy, who was appointed to the bench of the Territorial Court of the Northwest Territories, effective February 20, 2019. The Speaker congratulates Mr. Molloy on his appointment, and thanks him for his years of service to the people of Newfoundland and Labrador.

The position of Information and Privacy Commissioner is established under the Access to Information and Protection of Privacy Act, 2015. A process for the appointment of a permanent Commissioner is also outlined in the Act (Section 85). That process has commenced and is ongoing.
