The Lionel Kelland Hospice Board of Directors is ready to issue a Request for Proposals on the design of a 10-bed community-based residential hospice to be located at the Presentation Centre in Grand Falls-Windsor.
Design work and architectural planning on the new hospice is expected to be complete this fall. Construction is scheduled to start in early 2020.
The Provincial Government will contribute up to $3 million to assist with capital costs. The Board of Directors through community fundraising efforts will raise the remaining funding needed to support the new hospice. To date, individuals, businesses and community groups have committed more than $880,000 towards construction.
The Lionel Kelland Hospice will provide holistic supports to patients and their loved ones in the end-of-life journey. The hospice will be available free of charge to people province-wide and will include private residential rooms, a community common room, and kitchen and dining areas. There will also be quiet spaces designed for patients and their families, accessible tub and shower rooms, a nursing station, secure medication area and outside garden space.
The Lionel Kelland Hospice is a partnership initiative that complements work already underway by the Provincial Government to improve health services and ensure better outcomes in the area of home and community supports.
