The Honourable Gerry Byrne, Minister of Fisheries and Land Resources, invites residents to celebrate Newfoundland and Labrador’s growing agriculture industry this fall by participating in upcoming Open Farm Day activities, Agriculture Expos, and local fall fairs.

Open Farm Day on September 15 is a chance for visitors to meet local farmers and see first-hand how they work to increase food sustainability and self-sufficiency in Newfoundland and Labrador.

Upcoming Agriculture Expos in Corner Brook September 27-29 and Grand Falls-Windsor October 18-20, provide an opportunity to talk to professionals about the expanding agriculture industry. Representatives from the Department of Fisheries and Land Resources will also be on hand to provide information about efforts to help increase farming opportunities in the province.

Local fall fairs, such as the Humber Valley Agriculture Home/Handicraft Exhibition in Deer Lake September 20-21, are a fun way to learn about gardening, growing your own food, and raising animals.

For more information on upcoming events this fall, please see the backgrounder below.

Support for agriculture delivers on commitments in The Way Forward to strengthen the province’s economic foundation and deliver better services and better outcomes for residents. The Way Forward outlines all actions the Provincial Government is taking to achieve a strong, diversified province with a high standard of living, and can be viewed at thewayforward.gov.nl.ca.

Quote
“A visit to a farm or agricultural exhibition is an excellent opportunity for an up-close view of how farmers and producers are creating important employment and economic opportunities, and increasing food self-sufficiency. These popular events highlight the tireless work of local farmers and producers, showcase the range of agricultural services available, and give visitors a chance to view and sample local, homegrown products. I encourage everyone to get out this fall to spend some time with the people who make our agriculture industry strong.”
Honourable Gerry Byrne
Minister of Fisheries and Land Resources
