Elvis Loveless, Parliamentary Secretary for Fisheries and Land Resources, will bring greetings to the Miawpukek First Nation’s Plamu Ceremony in celebration of National Indigenous Peoples Day and International Year of the Salmon tomorrow (Friday, June 21). The event begins at 11:00 a.m. at The Point in Conne River.

Plamu (Atlantic salmon) is an important food, cultural and ceremonial species to the Mi’kmaq. The Plamu Ceremony will commemorate this important relationship and the annual return of Atlantic salmon to the Conne River. The Provincial Government is also celebrating the International Year of the Salmon with a series of initiatives to highlight Newfoundland and Labrador’s vital role in salmon conservation and management.
