“Let’s Get Outdoors” to Celebrate National Wildlife Week

  • Fisheries and Land Resources

April 8, 2019

The Honourable Gerry Byrne, Minister of Fisheries and Land Resources, is encouraging all Newfoundlanders and Labradorians to head outdoors to enjoy our natural environment and share your photos of wildlife and wild places during National Wildlife Week April 7 to 13.

Submit your photographs of outdoor excursions to salmoniernaturepark@gov.nl.ca to share on social media and inspire others to get outdoors.

National Wildlife Week commemorates the life of celebrated conservationist Jack Miner and his efforts to save the iconic Canada goose from extinction. This year’s provincial program of events at Salmonier Nature Park focuses on developing skills to enhance the outdoor experience. A list of activities for National Wildlife Week taking place at the nature park is included in the below backgrounder.

Quote
“Our connection to nature is a crucial part of what makes Newfoundland and Labrador such a rich and wonderful place to live. No matter where we are in this province, nature is at our doorstep and an integral part of our daily lives. We are blessed with clean air and water, forests and wilderness areas, and parks and green spaces where we can work and play. I encourage all residents to get back to nature during National Wildlife Week.”
Honourable Gerry Byrne
Minister of Fisheries and Land Resources
