Minister Byrne Attending Trade Show to Promote Province’s Seafood Industry

The Honourable Gerry Byrne, Minister of Fisheries and Land Resources, will join seafood buyers and suppliers from around the world at Seafood Expo North America 2019 in Boston on March 16. Minister Byrne will host a reception and meet with industry experts and seafood representatives responsible for sourcing products, equipment and services.

Minister Byrne will also highlight Newfoundland and Labrador’s 2018 Seafood Industry Year in Review while in Boston, providing a comprehensive overview of the province’s wild and farmed fisheries.

The value of total fish and seafood production in Newfoundland and Labrador in 2018 was $1.3 billion, marking the fourth consecutive year it has exceeded one billion dollars. The seafood industry continues to be an integral component of the provincial economy employing nearly 16,000 people from over 400 communities in harvesting, processing, and aquaculture operations.

Seafood Expo North America is the largest seafood trade event in North America, featuring over 1,340 exhibiting companies from more than 50 countries.

Support for Newfoundland and Labrador’s seafood industry delivers on commitments in The Way Forward to strengthen the economy. The Way Forward outlines all actions the Provincial Government is taking to achieve a strong, diversified province with a high standard of living, and can be viewed at .
