Public Advisory: FireSmart Grants Available to Help Promote Wildfire Prevention Activities

FireSmart Canada is accepting applications for Wildfire Community Preparedness Day Awards through the national FireSmart Canada Community Recognition Program. The program provides grants to help community organizations fund local projects that help reduce the risk of wildfire damage to homes and neighbourhoods.

The Department of Fisheries and Land Resources has been a proud supporter and sponsor of FireSmart Canada’s Community Recognition Program since 2013.

Communities and organizations interested in planning a FireSmart project can apply for a $500 grant to support a National Wildfire Community Preparedness Day event to be held between May 4 and October 31, 2019. As part of the Provincial Government’s contribution to FireSmart Canada, at least two awards are earmarked to fund projects in Newfoundland and Labrador. The deadline to apply for a grant is March 9, 2019.
