Fish and Wildlife Enforcement Officers on the province’s east coast have laid a number of charges under the Wildlife Act following a recent investigation.

On January 10, 2019, officers from the Clarenville detachment apprehended two adult males from Port Rexton and Hickman’s Harbour following an anonymous tip that a young bull moose was shot and killed earlier that morning. The big game hunting season in the area closed on December 31, 2018.

Officers seized four quarters of moose meat, two firearms, an all-terrain vehicle, and a sleigh as a result of the investigation. The men face charges under the Wildlife Act including hunting during closed season, possession of a firearm without a valid license, and illegal possession of big game.

The public can help officers protect the province’s natural resources and ensure public safety by reporting suspicious activity anonymously and toll-free at any time of the day by calling 1-877-820-0999, or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS. Anonymous online reports can also be submitted at www.stoppoaching.ca or www.nlcrimestoppers.com .
