Premier Ball Welcomes Signing of Memorandum of Understanding on Advancing Reconciliation between the Federal Government and NunatuKavut

The Honourable Dwight Ball, Premier of Newfoundland and Labrador, acknowledges the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding on Advancing Reconciliation by the Government of Canada and the NunatuKavut Community Council (NCC).

The signing ceremony took place in Toronto earlier today. Representing Premier Ball at the event was the Honourable Lisa Dempster, Minister of Children, Seniors and Social Development and Minister of Municipal Affairs and Environment.

The Government of Newfoundland and Labrador is encouraged that the Federal Government and the NunatuKavut Community Council are moving forward with this MOU. As a result of today’s signing, discussions under the MOU will produce tangible benefits for NunatuKavut members. The Federal Government and NCC are exploring a common understanding of the scope of the rights of the NunatuKavut membership while ensuring physical, emotional and spiritual safety is supported.
