May 23, 2019

The passing of one of this province’s respected and admired sons, the Honourable Beaton Tulk, is a loss not only for his family and friends, but all of Newfoundland and Labrador. His years in public service as a teacher and political figure saw him make a difference in the lives of those with whom he interacted.

Those who knew him personally, as I did, know of his commitment and dedication to our province. He will be remembered as kind and compassionate and a source of strength for many. His strength during his own illness gave strength to those around him.

Beaton believed in our province and our people. Newfoundland and Labrador is a better place because of his leadership. Today is a sad one for the province. Howard and I offer our deepest sympathies to his family and large circle of friends. He will be missed.

Out of respect for Newfoundland and Labrador’s seventh premier, the flags at Government House are flying at half-mast.
