Statement by Premier Ball on the Passing of Beaton Tulk

  • Executive Council

May 23, 2019

Early this morning, our province lost a political giant. Beaton Tulk was a friend and a true Liberal. His unwavering devotion to this province will live on, not only in our memories, but in his many contributions through his service to Newfoundlanders and Labradorians.

For younger people who may not be familiar with Beaton, his memoir is a great reflection of the man who wrote it – entertaining, honest, and larger than life. It reveals how Beaton’s tremendous sense of humour, his passion for his province, and his loyalty helped him deal with diverse challenges, famous figures, and unique circumstances.

Through each memory, and with each person, challenge, and circumstance, you see how he earned the right to call himself ‘A Man of My Word.’ Certainly a great read, and book in my collection that I will treasure a little bit more today.

The flags at Confederation Building will fly at half-mast today in honour of the memory of Newfoundland and Labrador’s seventh Premier. My thoughts and prayers are with his friends and family as they celebrate his life.
