Premier Ball Comments on Meeting with Prime Minister Trudeau

  • Executive Council

February 22, 2019

The following statement was issued today by the Honourable Dwight Ball, Premier of Newfoundland and Labrador:

The Atlantic Accord is a top priority for our government, and Prime Minister Trudeau’s presence in the province today to advance discussions shows this is a priority for him. Both Prime Minister Trudeau and I recognize the significance of these discussions to the future of Newfoundland and Labrador.

Our discussions focused on Newfoundland and Labrador being the primary beneficiary of its offshore resources and the joint management of those resources. The Prime Minister committed to work with me to finalize the Atlantic Accord review by the end of March.

I also appreciated the opportunity to advance discussions on a number of other matters of importance, including Muskrat Falls and electricity rates, infrastructure, healthcare, and social issues. I have a positive working relationship with the Prime Minister, and I look forward to advancing issues of importance of Newfoundlanders and Labradorians with him in the weeks and months to come.
