Media Advisory: Premier Ball and Minister Byrne to Lead Forestry Sector Summit

The Honourable Dwight Ball, Premier of Newfoundland and Labrador, and the Honourable Gerry Byrne, Minister of Fisheries and Land Resources, will lead a Forestry Sector Summit at Grenfell Campus, Memorial University in Corner Brook on Monday, January 28.

Premier Ball and Minster Byrne will be joined by the Honourable Bernard Davis, Minister of Advanced Education, Skills and Labour, and the Honourable Christopher Mitchelmore, Minister of Tourism, Culture, Industry and Innovation; Bill Dawson, Executive Director of the Newfoundland and Labrador Forest Industry Association; representatives from Indigenous governments and organizations and the forest sector; and community, academic, and business leaders.

A technical briefing will be held for media at 8:30 a.m. in Board Room 2036, Arts and Science Atrium, Grenfell Campus.

The Premier and Ministers of the Cabinet Committee on Jobs will then launch a Forestry Sector Work Plan with industry representatives and stakeholders beginning at 10:00 a.m. The event will be livestreamed and will be available from gov.nl.ca

As part of The Way Forward vision, the Provincial Government is directly engaging the forestry, oil and gas, mining, aquaculture, agriculture, and technology sectors to address industry needs in ways that result in new employment and economic activity throughout the province.
