Office of the Chief Electoral Officer – Application Submitted for Judicial Recount in Labrador West

Newfoundland and Labrador’s Chief Electoral Officer, Bruce Chaulk, today submitted an application for a judicial recount in the electoral district of Labrador West.

According to the Elections Act, 1991, an election that results in a difference of 10 votes or less must have a judicial recount. The election in Labrador West resulted in a difference of only five votes between Jordan Brown of the New Democratic Party and Graham Letto of the Liberal Party. According to the official count, Jordan Brown received 1,366 votes and Graham Letto received 1,361 votes.

The total number of rejected ballots in the Labrador West district was 26; eight of those 26 were rejected Special Ballots.

Elections NL will announce when the Supreme Court has set the date for the judicial recount.
