Turnout from Second Day of Advance Poll Voting in Topsail – Paradise By-Election

Polls closed this evening (January 19) at 8:00 p.m. for the second day of Advance Poll voting in the Topsail – Paradise by-election. Votes were cast at five polls in two locations: Octagon Pond Elementary School in Paradise and Lodge Conception Masonic Hall in Chamberlains. The preliminary total of votes cast is as follows:

On the first day of Advance voting on Thursday, January 17, 553 votes were cast which, combined with today’s votes, gives a total of 1,116 votes cast at the Advance Polls. Comparatively, in the 2015 Provincial General Election, 886 votes were cast during one day of Advance voting in the district of Topsail – Paradise.

By-election day is Thursday, January 24. In order to be eligible to vote, an elector must be at least 18 years of age, a Canadian citizen, a resident of Newfoundland and Labrador and a resident of the district of Topsail – Paradise on polling day.

To find out where to vote, registered electors are encouraged to reference the yellow Voter Information Cards distributed in the mail this week by Elections Newfoundland and Labrador. Voting locations may also be obtained by calling the district Returning Office at 781-7807, calling Elections Newfoundland and Labrador at 729-7987 or visiting the Elections Newfoundland and Labrador website: www.elections.gov.nl.ca.
