Child and Youth Advocate Announces Winners of Poster Contest

Child and Youth Advocate Jackie Lake Kavanagh is delighted to announce the winners of her office’s poster contest. The contest asked young people in the province to design a poster about what the right to education means to them. The Right to Education is one of many fundamental rights identified in the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC).

The winners are Sanuda Jayasinghe from Mealy Mountain Collegiate in Happy Valley-Goose Bay and Bridget Little from École des Grands-Vents in St. John’s.  Winning posters were unveiled in their schools today. The Office of the Child and Youth Advocate also distributed t-shirts with the poster design for all their schoolmates.

Jackie Lake Kavanagh stated, “We had a very hard job to pick an older and younger winner from more than 300 amazing entries from all over the province. The talent and creativity really impressed us. We were truly delighted with the response from students from all parts of Newfoundland and Labrador.” She plans to profile all of the talent from this poster contest, so in the future it will be seen on the website, social media, and other resource materials for the Office of the Child and Youth Advocate.
