Today, the Honourable Lisa Dempster, Minister of Children, Seniors and Social Development, announced the launch of an engagement process for the five-year statutory review of the Adult Protection Act. The purpose of this legislation is to protect adults who are at risk of abuse and neglect and who do not understand or appreciate the risk.

In consultation with the Public Engagement and Planning Division, and the Newfoundland and Labrador Centre for Health Information, the Provincial Government is gathering input on the ways in which the adult protection legislation is impacting service users and the public, as well as ways in which to improve the legislation based on these experiences.

The engagement process includes in-person dialogue sessions and meetings that will provide targeted key stakeholders, such as managers and frontline staff of the Regional Health Authorities and the police, with the opportunity to share their input and perspectives on the Act. This process is also open to the public who can visit engageNL.ca to complete a feedback form on the legislation by December 18, 2019.
