The Honourable Lisa Dempster, Minister of Children, Seniors and Social Development and Minister Responsible for the Status of Persons with Disabilities, announced today that the 2019-20 Newfoundland and Labrador Community Transportation Program is now accepting applications.
The program, with an annual investment of $300,000, provides incorporated municipalities and not-for-profit groups, and Indigenous groups and governments with the opportunity to obtain support to develop, implement and evaluate a community-based transportation program that is inclusive and accessible. Proponents can submit applications for up to $100,000 for projects demonstrating clear evidence of collaboration, sustainability and volunteer involvement.
Five proposals received funding for the 2018-19 fiscal year, including one from the Town of New-Wes-Valley, in partnership with Central Health and the Kittiwake Age-Friendly Committee. This initiative provides affordable transportation to and from medical appointments, banking, shopping and social events for residents in the Kittiwake Coast area.
