The Department of Children, Seniors and Social Development is advising that Carrot Insights Inc. is discontinuing operations as of Thursday, June 20, and the Carrot Rewards app is no longer available.

The Carrot Rewards app, which was launched in Newfoundland and Labrador in June 2016 with support from the Provincial Government, had over 45,000 registered users in this province. The free mobile app rewarded residents of the province for tracking and meeting daily physical activity goals and completing educational healthy living quizzes.

Carrot Insights Inc. met all 2018-19 commitments outlined by the department related to the app, and no funding has been transferred to Carrot Insights Inc. for 2019-20.

The Provincial Government, in partnership with community partners, has identified a variety of ways to increase physical activity, support healthy eating, decrease smoking rates and create healthier communities. Budget 2019 includes funding to support such initiatives as Active Schools, ParticipACTION, Eat Great and Participate, Healthy Students, Healthy Schools, Healthy School Planner and Participation Nation.

In addition, Budget 2019 provides $1.79 million in funding to municipalities and community-based organizations to support healthy active living programs through the Community Healthy Living Fund. This program, which provided funding to over 300 community groups and organizations, supporting more than 500 projects and initiatives in 2018-19, is designed to increase physical activity and healthy eating as well as support other healthy living initiatives.
