The Honourable John Haggie, Minister of Health and Community Services, announced on April 13 that the Town of Gander will host the 2022 Newfoundland and Labrador Winter Games.

The Newfoundland and Labrador Games are a week-long, provincial, multi-sport event which alternate between winter and summer Games every two years.

The Games are delivered in partnership with the Department of Children, Seniors and Social Development, Sport Newfoundland and Labrador, a host community organizing committee, provincial sport organizations, and the help of hundreds of community volunteers.

The Newfoundland and Labrador Games provide key opportunities for athlete development, while building community spirit and delivering economic benefits to the local business community. The Town of Gander also hosted the Games in 2002.

Announcing the host of the 2022 Summer Games three years in advance provides time for the local host committee to plan and prepare for a major event that involves about 1,500 athletes from across the province.

Supporting the Newfoundland and Labrador Games delivers on commitments in The Way Forward to deliver better outcomes for residents. The Way Forward outlines all actions the Provincial Government is taking to achieve a strong, diversified province with a high standard of living, and can be viewed at thewayforward.gov.nl.ca.
