The Honourable Lisa Dempster, Minister of Children, Seniors and Social Development, today announced an additional $25,000 in support for the Baby-Friendly Council to expand and enhance the Space for Everyone toolkit.

The funding will provide continued support to Happy Valley-Goose Bay and other communities that have begun using the toolkits to create breastfeeding-friendly environments at a community level. Expansion plans include providing additional supports such as a breastfeeding-friendly chair for community spaces and additional public awareness materials. The Baby-Friendly Council will also be working to implement the toolkit in more communities.

This investment builds on commitments in The Way Forward to deliver better services and better outcomes for residents. The Way Forward outlines all actions the Provincial Government is taking to achieve a strong, diversified province with a high standard of living, and can be viewed at thewayforward.gov.nl.ca.

“Breastfeeding is as natural as breathing, moms should never feel ashamed to feed their babies in public and at the same time they deserve to have a space that they can feel comfortable in. As mayor, I am proud to say the Town of Happy Valley-Goose Bay is a safe baby-friendly place.”
