Individuals, groups and organizations are invited to submit nominations for the 2019 Newfoundland and Labrador Seniors of Distinction Awards.

Now in its 10th year, the awards program recognizes and celebrates the contributions, achievements and diversity of seniors throughout Newfoundland and Labrador. The deadline for submissions is May 3, 2019.

For more information or to obtain an application, visit: www.cssd.gov.nl.ca/seniors/sda/ or call 1-888-494-2266 (toll free).

The Seniors of Distinction Awards support the Provincial Government’s enhanced focus on seniors. This includes helping seniors remain healthy, active, engaged citizens – living in their own homes and active in their age-friendly communities.

To be eligible, a senior must be nominated by an individual or group, must be 50 years of age or older and be a current or past resident of Newfoundland and Labrador. Nominees will be considered for both voluntary and paid work. Nominations from last year will be reviewed again this year if requested by the nominee. Posthumous awards may also be given.

Recognizing and supporting seniors builds on commitments in The Way Forward to deliver better services and better outcomes for residents. The Way Forward outlines all actions the Provincial Government is taking to achieve a strong, diversified province with a high standard of living, and can be viewed at thewayforward.gov.nl.ca.

Quotes
“We have the seniors of our province to thank for shaping this place we call home. Their hard work to raise families and build communities is what makes us who we are today. Through the Seniors of Distinction Awards, we have an opportunity to recognize and thank seniors for the formative impact they have on our communities and province as a whole.”
Honourable Lisa Dempster
Minister of Children, Seniors and Social Development

“Seniors continue to play a very important role in our society. The presentation of the Seniors of Distinction Awards is one way we can celebrate and honour seniors, as well as acknowledge the many contributions they have made. Their knowledge, coupled with a lifetime of accomplishments and tireless volunteer work, has definitely made and will continue to make our province a better place. If you know of someone who should be recognized as a Senior of Distinction, please consider nominating them for this award.”
