Media Advisory: Minister Dempster and Parliamentary Secretary Bennett to Celebrate 2019 Canada Winter Games

The Honourable Lisa Dempster, Minister of Children, Seniors and Social Development, and Derek Bennett, Parliamentary Secretary for Children, Seniors and Social Development, will travel to Red Deer, Alberta, this week to participate in events centred around the 2019 Canada Winter Games.

On Thursday, February 14, and Friday, February 15, Parliamentary Secretary Bennett will participate in a meeting of the Federal, Provincial and Territorial Ministers responsible for Sport, Physical Activity and Recreation.

On Friday, February 15, Minister Dempster and Parliamentary Secretary Bennett will attend the opening ceremonies of the games, where the province will be represented by nearly 250 athletes, volunteer coaches, managers and mission staff who comprise Team Newfoundland and Labrador.

Also, on Friday, February 15, Confederation Building will be lit in red, white and gold as part of a Light Up Canada initiative to celebrate the 2019 Canada Winter Games. The Canada Games Council has invited governments across the country to light up prominent landmarks to show support for athletes competing in the games.
