Provincial Government Calls for Proposals to Enhance Newcomer Settlement and Integration

The Provincial Government today issued a second call for proposals to enhance newcomer settlement and integration services throughout the province.

Applications are now being accepted under the Newfoundland and Labrador Settlement and Integration Program (NLSIP) as well as the Labour Market Integration for Newcomers (LMIN) program.

Proposals to the NLSIP should improve the quality, availability, and accessibility of services that support the social, cultural and economic integration of newcomers to the province. Proposals to the LMIN program should address gaps and needs expressed by newcomers in the area of labour market integration through innovative, applied projects as detailed in the call for proposals.

Eligible proponents must apply online through the Labour Market Programs Support System (LaMPSS), which enables proponents to access and submit application forms and update organizational information. Applicants are encouraged to register for a LaMPSS account well in advance of submitting their application to this call for proposals.

Application guidelines for submitting proposals, as well as funding eligibility and requirements, are available online for NLSIP and LMIN. Applications must be submitted by end of day on July 2, 2019.

Since 2017, the number of individuals supported toward permanent residency by the Provincial Government has increased by over 25 per cent. Preliminary data for 2018 indicates 1,530 individuals became permanent residents in Newfoundland and Labrador, representing 90 per cent of the Way Forward 2022 target of 1,700 newcomers annually.

These initiatives deliver on commitments in The Way Forward to strengthen the province’s economic foundation and deliver better services and better outcomes for residents. The Way Forward outlines all actions the Provincial Government is taking to achieve a strong, diversified province with a high standard of living, and can be viewed at thewayforward.gov.nl.ca.
