The Honourable Bernard Davis, Minister of Advanced Education, Skills and Labour, offers best wishes to all Punjabi and Sikh Newfoundlanders and Labradorians celebrating Baisakhi on Sunday, April 14.

Baisakhi, also known as Vaisakhi, is a festival that marks the Punjabi and Sikh new year and is associated with the spring harvest. A wide variety of traditions and cultural activities are associated with Baisakhi, including parades, decorating Gurdwaras, meeting friends, and celebrating with festive foods.

To recognize and celebrate the diversity of the province’s residents, the Provincial Government acknowledges cultural holidays and events, a key commitment in The Way Forward on Immigration in Newfoundland and Labrador.

Quote
“I wish everyone who is celebrating the beginning of a new year on April 14 a peaceful and happy year ahead. I hope you have a wonderful time celebrating this joyful occasion with family, friends and neighbours throughout the province.”
Honourable Bernard Davis
Minister of Advanced Education, Skills and Labour
