Provincial Government Releases 2019 ‘A Portrait of Diversity Calendar’

The Honourable Bernard Davis, Minister of Advanced Education, Skills and Labour, today released the 2019 A Portrait of Diversity Calendar.

The calendar celebrates the cultural holidays and events of all Newfoundlanders and Labradorians. Recognizing these important dates leads to better intercultural understanding and increases public awareness of diverse holidays and commemorations in the province.

This year’s calendar profiles Newfoundlanders and Labradorians of diverse cultural, religious, geographic and other backgrounds who have made and continue to make meaningful contributions to the province’s social, cultural, and economic fabric.

The 2019 A Portrait of Diversity Calendar can be downloaded at www.gov.nl.ca/immigration/files/Diversity_Calendar_2019.pdf . Organizations interested in having their holidays and events included in the calendar are invited to e-mail diversity@gov.nl.ca.

In The Way Forward on Immigration in Newfoundland and Labrador, the Provincial Government committed to developing the calendar to assist schools, municipalities, businesses and community organizations in planning multicultural activities. The calendar is issued and updated annually, with ongoing input from cultural and other organizations.

The diversity calendar delivers on commitment in The Way Forward to deliver better services and better outcomes for residents. The Way Forward outlines all actions the Provincial Government is taking to achieve a strong, diversified province with a high standard of living, and can be viewed at www.thewayforward.gov.nl.ca/.
