Public Advisory: Caution Advised for Avalon Peninsula Motorists

  • Transportation and Works

December 6, 2018

Motorists are advised that the Department of Transportation and Works is monitoring forecasts calling for 15 to 20 cm of snow in eastern Newfoundland starting this evening and exceeding 20 cm on the Avalon Peninsula before tomorrow morning.

Environment Canadaexternal link icon is warning travellers about reduced visibilities with blowing snow and suggests that non-essential travel be postponed until conditions improve.

The department’s snow clearing and ice control crews are ready to respond and will be operating overnight tonight.

If travelling is required, motorists are encouraged to ensure vehicles are properly equipped for winter driving and drive to conditions. Speed limits posted on highways and on municipal roads are for ideal driving conditions.

Motorists are advised to drive cautiously and are reminded to check the latest Environment Canada forecastsexternal link icon; visit www.roads.gov.nl.caexternal link icon for road condition reports, live highway cameras, and provincial plow tracker; and watch for driving condition updates on the department’s Twitter account, @TW_GovNLexternal link icon.
