Public Advisory: Motorists Advised to Adjust Driving for Anticipated Heavy Snowfall

The Department of Transportation and Works is monitoring weather forecasts calling for 15 to 20 cm of snow for many parts of the province beginning this evening.

Snow clearing and ice control crews throughout the province are ready to respond. Due to the expected weather patterns, motorists are advised to drive cautiously and are reminded to:

  • Check the latest Environment Canada external link icon forecasts before travelling;
  • Visit www.roads.gov.nl.ca for road condition reports, live highway cameras, and provincial plow tracker updates;
  • Watch for driving conditions updates on the department’s Twitter account, @TW_GovNL external link icon, using the #nltraffic hashtag;
  • Ensure vehicles are equipped for winter driving conditions; and,
  • Slow down and drive to conditions. Speed limits posted on highways and on municipal roads are for ideal driving conditions.
