Public Advisory: Work to Add Climbing Lanes Begins on Veterans Memorial Highway

  • Transportation and Works

October 24, 2018

Motorists are advised that work to add climbing lanes at four locations on Route 75, Veterans Memorial Highway, is currently underway.

Due to blasting required for the widening of the highway and heavy equipment making frequent trips to and from each location, temporary detours will be implemented from Monday to Saturday each week beginning on October 31. The detours will be in place each day from 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. to lessen the impact on travel during times of heavier traffic. This work is anticipated to be completed in late November with paving of the climbing lanes to take place in the spring.

Motorists will detour at the highway’s intersection with Country Road, Route 71, and Hodgewater Line. During the detours, there will be no access to Route 75 via the North River Road.

Local emergency responders in the region have been advised of the upcoming detours. Signs and traffic control measures will be in place to direct travelers and motorists are reminded to pay attention to the posted speed limits along the detours and to drive cautiously.

Updates on this project and other work can be found at www.roads.gov.nl.ca. Progress updates on this project will also be available on the department’s Twitter, @TW_GovNLexternal link icon.
