October 15, 2018

Motorists in the Carbonear area are advised that construction of two ramps at the intersection of the Conception Bay North Highway and Valley Road begins today.

The two additional ramps, to be constructed on the west side of the highway, will eliminate the need for vehicles to cross oncoming traffic to exit the highway.

Motorists in this area are reminded to slow down, watch for flagpersons and be prepared to stop for heavy equipment in the roadway.

The contract, valued at approximately $800,000, was awarded to MJ Hickey Ltd.. Work on the ramps will continue this fall, with paving expected to be completed in 2019.

Construction of climbing lanes for Route 75, Veteran’s Memorial Highway, is expected to begin later this month. Paving of the new lanes will be completed in 2019. The contract valued at approximately $1.4 million was awarded to Farrell’s Excavating Ltd.

Progress updates will be available on the department’s construction slow-downs page, available at www.roads.gov.nl.ca, and via Twitter, @TW_GovNL.
