Provincial Government Seeking Input on Province’s Highways and Bridges

October 3, 2018

The Provincial Government is once again inviting the general public to provide input on provincial highways and bridges to be included in the update to the Department of Transportation and Works’ Five-Year Provincial Roads Plan in early 2019.

First announced in 2017 and updated earlier this year, the plan uses input from the general public in its evidence-based approach to build, renew and maintain highway infrastructure. Road work planned for each year is ranked on factors such as safety, traffic volumes, socio-economic impacts, and input from the department’s engineers and public.

Participants will be asked to identify their region, route name and number and the nearest municipality or landmark, followed by the type of issue they are experiencing. The form can be accessed via Engagenl.ca and www.roads.gov.nl.ca and will be open for input until November 16.

The plan’s flexibility allows for new projects to be added so that road conditions that have deteriorated more than anticipated in the past year and new issues identified by the public can be added to the plan. Projects planned for future years may also begin sooner than originally anticipated, if necessary.

Initiatives such as this deliver on commitments in The Way Forward to strengthen the province’s economic foundation and deliver better services and better outcomes for residents. The Way Forward outlines all actions the Provincial Government is taking to achieve a strong, diversified province with a high standard of living, and can be viewed at thewayforward.gov.nl.ca.

“Our previous public consultations have provided us with valuable feedback that has been used to develop and update our five-year roads plan. This is an excellent opportunity for the public to tell the Department of Transportation and Works about highways and bridges they would like to see improved and we encourage everyone to participate.”
Honourable Steve Crocker
Minister of Transportation and Works
