The Rooms contributes $15,000 to Military Family Resource Centres
in Newfoundland and Labrador
The Board of Directors and staff of The Rooms Corporation are very pleased to contribute part of the proceeds from the sale of pewter forget-me-nots in support of military families in our province.
Military Family Resource Centres in Happy Valley-Goose Bay, Gander and St. John’s will each receive $5,000. Margaret Allan, Chair, Elinor Gill Ratcliffe, Centennial Lead Donor, Anne Chafe, Director of Museums and Galleries, and Dean Brinton, CEO presented cheques in Goose Bay and Gander while visiting the regional museums operated by The Rooms this July. A cheque will be presented in St. John’s in the weeks to come.
With the First World War centenary period ending on November 11 of this year, The Rooms is also pleased to offer a 35 per cent discount on regular admission to The Rooms to active and retired members of the military and their spouses.
“Government recognizes the important sacrifice of those who have served and continue to serve our country. I commend The Rooms for continuing to honour their important contribution through outreach, education and public programming. I thank those who contributed to this important cause which will provide valuable support to military families throughout our province.”
Honourable Christopher Mitchelmore
Minister Responsible for The Rooms Corporation
“Since the opening of The Royal Newfoundland Regiment Gallery at The Rooms on July 1, 2016, the entire country has been reminded of the sacrifices made by Newfoundlanders and Labradorians during the First World War. With these two initiatives – the support of military families and the discount offered to members of the military – The Rooms recognizes the sacrifices still being made by those who continue to serve our country.”
