The Provincial Government, through the Cultural Events Fund, today announced an investment of nearly $70,000 to 72 entities to help fund cultural community events and activities occurring around the province.
This fund engages citizens in their communities through the arts, as well as through the expression, celebration and preservation of local heritage. It supports the awareness and the promotion of community culture, and the events benefit both residents and travellers to the province.
As part of The Way Forward, Government is committed to a new Cultural Action Plan to help set priorities and key actions towards supporting and sustaining the cultural sector. Supporting these cultural community events and activities delivers on commitments in The Way Forward to strengthen the province’s economic foundation and deliver better services and better outcomes for residents. The Way Forward outlines all actions the Provincial Government is taking to achieve a strong, diversified province with a high standard of living, and can be viewed at thewayforward.gov.nl.ca.
Quotes
“The Provincial Government is pleased to support the many cultural events and gatherings taking place across the province this year. We are investing nearly $70,000 through the Cultural Events Fund to help numerous organizations to host cultural events that engage residents and travellers in the celebration of local arts and heritage. I encourage everyone to get out and enjoy one of these events taking place in Newfoundland and Labrador.”
Honourable Christopher Mitchelmore
Minister of Tourism, Culture, Industry and Innovation
“Placentia Area Theatre d’Heritage’s tremendous success in bringing the area’s rich history to life is owed in great part to funding obtained from sources such as the Department of Tourism, Culture, Industry and Innovation. Hundreds of tourists as well as locals each year are able to enjoy theatrical productions that celebrate our past, from d’Iberville’s quest to the famed USO visits to the Argentia Naval Base. The support that our province provides is essential and our organization is grateful to be operating at a time when the arts are highly valued.”
